Course Director’s Welcome Message

 

Dearest collegues and friends,

as Course Director, on behalf of the EMDM Executive Committee and the whole Faculty, I am pleased to welcome you in the EMDM world!

As one of the mostly well known academic educational program in Disaster Medicine, EMDM brings together people, cultures and ideas from around the world to improve the scientific knowledge, abilities and practical attitudes in the management of health aspects in disasters.

EMDM is designed to provide students with a solid background in the disaster management disciplines and gives advanced focus on international aspects of disaster medicine.

During this program, you will develop analytical ability, strategic management knowledge, competence and problem-solving ability to deal with health problems in catastrophic events. This worldly perspective and cultural diversity are reflected in all aspects of our research and teaching. Over ten years activity, across this comprehensive program, renowned Faculty members from 32 countries inspired more than 300 participants, drawn from more than 70 countries, representing all the continents.

EMDM is a flexible learning environment which combines the best of traditional and innovative approaches to disaster education. We aim to provide a quality learning experience. Traditional learning methods are complemented by case studies, group assignments and simulations. A variety of assessment methods are used in the program, including formal exams, individual and group assignments, and case study and problem-solving sessions. These assessments form the basis for your award and are also an important part of the learning process.

 

We also have extensive and well-established links with international agencies, professional bodies and research organizations, as well as courses that are directly relevant to humanitarian and disaster medicine.

 

You will also join a global network of professional experts who share principles, concepts and terminologies in disaster management: the EMDM Alumni Association.
